UCI is proud to support the DIA in their campaign for recognition of Interior Designers.
The Interior Design industry is strong, but misunderstood. Interior Design needs to be accurately & consistently defined with regulated professional standards to protect public safety and educate the public, industry and government about our role and value in the construction industry.
The Design Institute of Australia (DIA) is a national organisation, enabling Australian designers by providing knowledge, leadership, access, and inclusivity. The organisation aims to help Australia’s professional designers to succeed, while collectively growing and strengthening Australia’s reputation as a design nation.
The Design Institute of Australia (DIA) is advocating for change and fighting for the Interior Designers in order to gain better recognition of the profession.
The DIA “Join the Fight” campaign has highlighted a number of issues that need to be addressed:
Define Interior Design
Interior Design needs to be accurately and consistently defined and we need to educate the public on our role and value in the construction industry.
Licence and regulate the industry
We need alignment of licencing and registration for Interior Designers in each state building authority across Australia, to better protect Australian citizens.
Improve professional standards
We need to address issues of pay equity, improve professional standards and protect public safety.
Improve education standards
We need to align the naming of qualifications across all university and vocational educators in Australia and improve standards of Interior Design Education.
UCI supports the DIA as an Advocacy Partner and has joined the fight for all interior designers.
